Michael
Dell - Bella Voce Principal Accompanist
- A native of Jacksonville, Michael received his Bachelor of
Church Music degree at Stetson University in Deland, Florida,
and his Master of Church Music degree at Southwestern
Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. Continued educational
opportunities include a five week residency with Dr. Gerre
Hancock at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, New York City, for an
intensive study of organ improvisation, service playing, liturgy
and choral conducting. Locally, Michael has performed with the
Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra and has presented organ solos on
the Casavant organ in Jacoby Hall. In addition to giving local
organ recitals, performances include St. Thomas Church, New York
City, Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale,
Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, California and the
International Church Music Festival in Bern, Switzerland. He has
served as Dean of the Jacksonville chapter of the American Guild
of Organists. Michael enjoys composing and arranging music, and
has several published organ settings. He also has a published
hymn text in the 1991 Baptist Hymnal, and is frequently
commissioned to write texts for special occasions. Michael has
also served as Director of the Friday Musicale Chorus for
several seasons. He currently serves as Organist/Director of
Music of South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church in the San Marco
areal of Jacksonville. Michael is the Founding Artistic Director
of his newly formed choral group: The Heritage Singers of
Jacksonville. Michael’s piano skills and ability to improvise
are equal to his fine organ playing. He brings a wonderful
dimension to Bella Voce performances.
